1.What is MM2H visa?

MM2H is a visa promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow foreigners who fulfill certain criteria, to stay in Malaysia for as long as possible on a multiple-entry social visit pass. The social visit pass is initially for a period of ten (10) years and is renewable

2.What is the difference between MM2H and Sarawak MM2H?

The difference between the MM2H and Sarawak MM2H is the application procedure that an applicant has to go through. Apart from that, the terms and conditions under this 2 program is slightly different from each other. (Please refer to our application criteria)

3.Who is eligible to apply for MM2H?

MM2H: 30 years and above
Sarawak MM2H: 30 years and above. For those below 30 years, they can apply under 2 condition:

  • undergoing long term medical treatment in Sarawak
  • children pursuing further education in Sarawak

4.Do I need to be in Malaysia for the application of MM2H program?

MM2H: No.
Sarawak MM2H: Yes.

5.How long does it take for my MM2H application to be processed and approved?

MM2H: 3 to 4 months
Sarawak MM2H: 4 weeks

6.When should I open up my Fixed Deposit account?

MM2H: After receiving the letter of Conditional Approval.
Sarawak MM2H: Before submitting the application.

7. What are the documents that I will need to provide for the MM2H application?

  1. Letter of Application (by applicant/ MM2H company);
  2. A copy of resume by the main applicant which includes the following information;
    * Academic qualification
    * working experience
    *skills or expertise acquired
  3. One (1) copy of MM2H Application Form - can be downloaded from MM2H website;
    Note: Applicant and all the dependents have to complete the Form individually.
  4. Three (3) copies of IM.12 Form (Social Visit Pass );
    Note : Applicant and all dependants have to complete the Form individually.
  5. Four (4) coloured passport size photographs;
  6. Copy of Passport/Travel documents ( all pages) with certification on the pages with personal particulars;
    Note : Copy of previous passport is required if applicant/ dependant(s) has renewed his/her passport within the last 12 months..
  7. Letter of Good Conduct from relevant government agency ;
  8. Self declaration on your/ dependants health conditions - Form can be downloaded from MM2H website;
  9. Certified copy of Marriage Certificate ( if accompanied by spouse );
  10. Certified copy of Birth Certificate/legal documents ( if accompanied by children/adopted children/step children/parents );
    * For applicants with chidren nearing the age 21 , they must submit their applications at least 6 months before their children reaches the age of 21.
    *Letter of Confirmation from Medical Specialist/General Practitioner (if accompanied by disabled children above 21 years old);
    * Statutory Declaration by principal applicant to bear all expenses and financial requirements for dependents during their stay in Malaysia ;
  11. Certified copy (s) of latest 3 months’ bank statements /other related financial document (s) to indicate the financial capability to support stay in Malaysia based on the financial requirement for each category;
  12. Latest 3 months’ certified copies of pay slip / income statement ( If employed)/ pension slip etc;
  13. Authorization Letter from applicant to Malaysia My Second Home Centre to verify the financial documents with the relevant financial institutions;
  14. A copy of Personal Bond, certified copy of Fixed Deposit certificate,Medical Insurance policy and medical report

8. I have been staying in Malaysia for years. Can I apply for MM2H?

Yes, provided you have a valid Social Visa at the point of application and are able to fulfill all the requirements as per our MM2H CheckList. The application can be done by the MM2H Agent while you are in Malaysia.

9. Can I work while I am under this program?

MM2H: Yes. You are allowed to work under this program
Sarawak MM2H: No. you are not allowed to work under this program

10. What are the main incentives and benefits being under this MM2H program?

MM2H:
1) House Purchase: RM500,000 & above (All States) and RM250,000 & above (PENANG), 2) Car Purchase: Each participant is allowed to bring in his / her own personal car OR to purchase a locally assembled car without the need to pay import duty, excise duty and sales tax.Participants must apply for prior approval within the time period given to the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of International Trade and Industry before bringing in personal car from country of residence or buying the locally assembled car in Malaysia. 3) Domestic Helper: Each applicant is allowed for one (1) maid subject to the prevailing guidelines of the Immigration Department of Malaysia. 4) Education: Under 21 years old (Children who intend to continued their schooling in Malaysia are required to apply for a Student Pass and should be insured throughout their stay under this programme) 5) Tax Exemption:Participants are bound by the policies, systems and regulations of taxes of this country and they do not have exemption qualifications as granted to Diplomatic Missions in Malaysia.However, tax exemption is given to pension remitted in Malaysia. Participants are required to obtain the endorsement from the Authorities in their country of origin as to the total amount of yearly pension received. A copy of this letter has to be submitted in their application for tax exemption.

Sarawak MM2H:

12. If my passport is valid for 3 years, will I receive the 10 year visa endorsement?

The MM2H visa endorsement will be given based on the validity of your passport. You will be entitled to receive up to ten (10) years visa if your passport is valid for the next ten years. If your passport in only valid for 3 years, you will only be given a 3-year visa. You will receive the balance of the 10-year visa upon the renewal of your passport. 

13. Can I open up a Fixed Deposit account in any bank?

You can only open up a fixed deposit in any bank/financial institution in Malaysia

14. What is the minimum days to stay in Malaysia per year after obtaining the MM2H visa endorsement?

There is no minimum days you require to stay in Malaysia per year. You may visit and leave as you wish with no restrictions after you obtained the MM2H visa endorsement.

15. After joining this program, can I apply for permanent residency?

Currently, our Immigration does not consider the period of stay under the MM2H Programme to fulfill the PR's requirement. Therefore, living in Malaysia under the MM2H Programme does not qualify you for the PR status in Malaysia

16. Who qualifies as dependants?

children/adopted children/step children/parents qualify as dependants

17. What is the maximum age for children to apply under the family application?

MM2H: 21 years old and below (unmarried)
Sarawak MM2H: 18 years old and below (unmarried)

18. Can I do my medical check-up in my country?

No, you can only do the medical checkup in Malaysia.

19. Can I withdraw my fixed deposit account after joining this program and when can I do so?

MM2H:
You may only withdraw up to MYR50,000.00 or MYR150,000.00 (whichever is relevant to you) after a period of one (1) year from date of issuance of MM2H visa with prior written approval from the Ministry of Tourism for expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. A minimum balance of Fixed Deposit of MYR100,000.00 or MYR150,000 must be maintained from the second year onwards and throughout the duration of participation under MM2H Programme. You may withdraw the whole fixed deposit at any time should you decide to terminate this Programme by obtaining the Approval letter from the Ministry of Tourism accordingly. 

Sarawak MM2H:
You may only withdraw up to MYR40,000.00 or MYR90,000.00 (whichever is relevant to you) after a period of one (1) year from date of issuance of MM2H visa with prior written approval from the Ministry of Tourism for expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. A minimum balance of Fixed Deposit of MYR60,000.00 must be maintained from the second year onwards and throughout the duration of participation under MM2H Programme. You may withdraw the whole fixed deposit at any time should you decide to terminate this Programme by obtaining the Approval letter from the Ministry of Tourism accordingly. 

20. Am I allowed to make a withdrawal from my fixed deposit for a few months and then topped it back later?

No, you are not allowed to make a withdrawal from your fixed deposit account for a few months and then topped it back again later

21. Can I place the required fixed deposit in a foreign currency?

The fixed deposit for this program must be made in Malaysian Ringgits only

22. Is it compulsory for me to purchase a house after joining this program?

No. It is not compulsary for you to purchase a house after joining this program

23. What incentives do I have with owning a car in Malaysia?

You can choose to either: i)Import one car subject to approved permit (AP), which is exempted from import duty, excise duty and sales tax ii)Purchase one locally assembled car (including foreign brands) in Malaysia which is exempted from payment of excise duty and sales tax.

25. Is there any deadline for me to purchase a car after the visa endorsement?

Yes. You must apply to purchase your car within 12 months from the date you receive your MM2H Visa. 

26. Do I need to pay income tax in Malaysia if I am drawing a salary in my own country?

No, you do not have to pay tax on any offshore income. 

27. Can I have a maid if I am under this program?

You are allowed to bring in a foreign maid subject to the approval from the Immigration Department. You may request us to furnish you with the detailed information and procedures on this.
